With so many patriotic observances taking place in May, it is no surprise that this month was officially designated as Military Appreciation Month by the U.S. Congress in 1999. While most citizens are well aware of Memorial Day, which takes place on the last Monday of the month, there are several other important observances that take place throughout May to honor military personnel, veterans and first responders.

Military and first responder holidays and observances are how we get to pay tribute to the men and women who have sacrificed and served, as well as those who serve now and their families. Each of these holidays has its own unique meaning and backstory.

Heroes on the Water is a 501(c)3 charity organization that introduces veterans, first responders and their families to a recreation that is therapeutic while providing a relaxing, fun experience. We introduce participants to the calming effects of being out on the water and provide tools through teaching that can be used to help cope with trauma, stress and other injuries.
